Mohamed W. Hassan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Accelerated Connected Computing Lab at KAUST. He works on reconfigurable computing and computer architecture for high performance computing.
He received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2021. He received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Engineering from the Arab Academy of Science, Egypt in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
Mohamed’s research has explored accelerating scientific applications in heterogenous systems including CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs. He is especially interested in optimizing High Level Synthesis (HLS) flows on FPGAs for the ultimate goal of integrating FPGAs into mainstream computing. He is an official Intel OneAPI Innovator collaborating with Intel on their compilation flow to facilitate FPGA programmability. Mohamed is also passionate about quantum computing, he explored the use of design automation tools to assist in programming quantum computers, winning the Innovative Paper Award at the High Performance Extreme Computing Conference (HPEC) in 2019.
