Ussama Zahid

Ussama Zahid was an M.S. student in the Accelerated Connected Computing Lab at KAUST. He works at the intersection of deep learning and embedded systems, i.e., “Edge AI”. He specializes in efficient training and inference of quantized deep neural networks (DNNs) and hardware-software co-design of DNN accelerators. Before joining KAUST, he was as a research engineer intern at Xilinx Research Labs, Dublin Ireland, Ireland where he worked on quantized and robust training of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), resulting in patents and publications. Rayan Rozi

Rayan Rozi was an MS student in the Accelerated Connected Computing Lab at KAUST. He worked on the design of hardware accelerators. Mohamed Hassan

Mohamed W. Hassan was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Accelerated Connected Computing Lab at KAUST from 2022–2025. He worked on reconfigurable computing and computer architecture for high performance computing. He received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2021. He received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Engineering from the Arab Academy of Science, Egypt in 2010 and 2013 respectively. Mahmoud Elshenawy

Ph.D. Student, Computer Science
Mahmoud Elshenawy is an MS/PhD student in the Accelerated Connected Computing Lab at KAUST. He works on mapping complex computations to hardware primitives in FPGA architectures. He received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the American University of Cairo, Egypt in 2023. He completed his MS in Computer Science at KAUST in 2024.

Krishnan Iyer

Ph.D. Student, Computer Science
Krishnan Iyer is a PhD student in the Accelerated Connected Computing Lab at KAUST. He works on reconfigurable computing systems and abstractions for managing hardware reconfiguration in FPGAs. He received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, India in 2020 and worked as an Embedded Systems Engineer at Peer Robotics. He completed his MS in Computer Science at KAUST in 2024.

Hao Liu

Ph.D. Student, Computer Science
Hao Liu is a PhD student in the Accelerated Connected Computing Lab at KAUST. He works on machine learning at the edge including split inference and exploiting near-edge accelerators. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Information Engineering and his Master’s degree in Cybersecurity and Technology from Beihang University, Beijing, China in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
